Deshalia is a 2021 graduate from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, infuses her passion for storytelling and cultural connection into her role at NABEA. Focused on amplifying the voices of Black professionals within the Asian diaspora, she is dedicated to enhancing NABEA’s outreach and engagement through compelling interviews and insightful writing.

Deshalia’s journey into Asian cultures began with her love for Korean pop culture during college, leading her to participate actively in MSU’s Korean Pop Culture Club. This experience deepened her appreciation for Korean arts and sparked a desire to bridge cultural gaps through her writing and analytical skills. Her academic pursuits included extensive research on cultural narratives, contributing to her nuanced understanding of international relations.

Before joining NABEA, Deshalia honed her skills as an editor and writer for various Korean musical publications like Envi Media and The B.E.L.U Lineup, where she spotlighted Black artists and professionals in the industry. Her roles have spanned social media assistant, researcher, and global artist promoter, showcasing her versatile capabilities in the Korean media landscape.

When she’s not weaving narratives or dissecting cultural dynamics, Deshalia can be found at the heart of live K-Pop performances, celebrating the very culture that inspired her academic and professional journey.
