Japanese Language Group (June)

This month, NABEA brought language and culture together for a special Juneteenth-themed Japanese language session facilitated by Nichole Mayfield and Darlene Onuorah. Members explored the vocabulary, phrases, and cultural concepts needed to discuss Juneteenth in Japanese — covering themes of history, freedom, and Black identity in a welcoming and engaging group setting.

Whether a beginner or brushing up on skills, members came ready to practice, connect, and expand their Japanese in a way rooted in culture and community. It was exactly the kind of conversation that only happens here!

All proficiency levels were welcome, and everyone was encouraged to participate and have fun!
