The National Association for Black Engagement with Asia (NABEA) and the US-Asia Ladies Networking Group hosted a conversation with Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland — the first member of the United States Congress of both Korean and African American heritage, and the first African American representative elected from Washington state.
In this intimate conversation, Congresswoman Strickland discussed how her unique background and identity have shaped her journey in public service. We explored the intersection of heritage, gender, and political leadership, and heard her reflections on representation, breaking barriers, and what it means to be a first.
This was a rare opportunity to engage directly with a trailblazer who embodies the communities we serve and to gain insights that resonate beyond the policy sphere — into the lived experiences that inform leadership at the highest levels.
The program included time for audience Q&A, followed by a reception to continue the conversation and connect with fellow attendees.
